Claims Conference University Partnership Program in Holocaust Studies

The Claims Conference provides grants to universities to fund lecturers to teach Holocaust courses for one academic year, with the possibility of extending the grant for up to four years. Applications are now open for the 2027-2028 University Partnership program. The deadline to submit all application materials is Friday, NOVEMBER 20, 2026.

In order to be eligible, the university must:

  • be based in Eastern, Central or Southeastern Europe, or in any country of the former Soviet Union (except the Russian Federation),
  • be a well-established public (government-supported) university
  • have an established History or other Humanities-related department
  • be offering no more than 1 Holocaust course throughout the university
  • be able to accept funds from the Claims Conference to pay the chosen lecturer directly (the Claims Conference will not pay the lecturer)

The Claims Conference will offer a maximum (gross) amount of €30,000 to:

1) create a new full-time lecturer position for one academic year to start in September 2027 and end in June 2028. The lecturer will be expected to teach at least 3 Holocaust courses per semester at the university, including one course that must be an Introduction to the Holocaust. The courses should be taught in the language that the majority of students understand. The lecturer must also offer 4 seminars open to the public, with the support of the university. The university will not be able to add to the lecturer’s responsibilities beyond those related to teaching these courses, unless the university offers the lecturer a stipend.

OR

2) combine the above Holocaust teaching position with an already existing lecturer position at your university to teach a maximum of 3 courses per semester.

The lecturer and the curricula must be approved by the university and the Claims Conference.
