Draft Law Approved for Plan to Increase Support Payments to Needy Elderly and Holocaust Survivors

An Israeli ministerial committee approved draft legislation that will allow for pension payments to eligible Holocaust survivors.
Already, about 200 of the neediest Holocaust survivors in Israel have received pensions under the new Israeli government program. These individuals were not eligible for other programs.
The additional pension payments should begin by early March. In the next week, letters containing applications forms and explanations will be sent to about 9,000 survivors who could be eligible.
The Claims Conference, which negotiated with Germany on behalf of the Jewish people, will help in the mailing of the letters. The Claims Conference maintains various databases needed to formulate the mailing list. The Office of the Prime Minister expressed its appreciation for the Claims Conference’s swift and professional assistance.
